Counseling sessions typically last approximately 50-55 minutes. Play therapy sessions typically last 45 minutes. Initial or crisis sessions may be scheduled for 80-90 minutes. Couples counseling also works best at about 75-90 minutes. The goal is always your comfort, your privacy and a setting that allows you to focus on your needs. The initial visit will be in the office setting for treatment planning, but I also like to meet people at the park and walk while we talk, and am available for other settings too.
My fee for most outpatient services is $110 per 50-minute session or $140 for an 80-minute session. The first session initial assessment cost is $120. I also charge the outpatient services rate for third-party consultations, written assessments or other services, which I may provide, on your behalf. I generally do not charge for commute time for off-site visits or for phone calls of less than 6 minutes.
I believe that personal transformation is best achieved when you know that your privacy is safe and that your personal information stays with me alone with the exceptions required by HIPAA law. Because of that I prefer to not accept health insurance at this time as this allows you to have the maximum control of your records and privacy as well as freedom of choice in selecting who provides the services that you receive without any limitations. However, most people desire to use their health insurance benefits if possible. I will work with you to help you obtain insurance reimbursement for my services. I am a provider on many national networks, and on others, I would be considered an out-of-network provider. Many insurance companies do reimburse mental health services, but you will have to check with your particular plan as they vary. Please contact your insurance provider for a full understanding of your benefits.
I also encourage folks to look into whether their company provides an Employee Assistance Program, as most do. Take advantage of your benefits. I am on several major EAP programs including Compsych, Bensinger-Dupont, and Alliance Work Partners.
Health Savings Accounts and Flexible Spending Accounts
If you have a Health Savings Account (HSA), Medical Savings Account (MSA), or the like, you are able to pay for therapy, consultation, and psychological assessment services from such accounts on some plans. In effect, this makes those services tax-deductible. I am happy to provide a receipt for services rendered that you can submit for HSA, MSA, or for reimbursement through your out-of-network benefits (please call your behavioral health carrier to check benefits for out-of-network, outpatient mental health coverage information).
Payment I use a card reader for some credit card and debit payments and a computerized program for others. I take MasterCard, Visa, Cash and Checks. Payment is due at the end of each session. I do charge a small fee per payment for this service.
